Trade route

Volga trade route

From Ladoga and Novgorod, Rus' traders reached the upper Volga and sailed down it to Volga Bulgaria and the Khazar capital Itil. They crossed the Caspian to Jurjan, and some went on by camel to Baghdad. Furs and slaves went south; silver dirhams and silk came north.
