Venetian galley convoys

Each year Venice auctioned state galleys to merchant groups for convoys to fixed markets. Fleets went down the Dalmatian coast to Modon, then to Alexandria, Beirut or Constantinople and the Black Sea, bringing back spices, silk and cotton. Another convoy carried them to London and Bruges.
