Trade route

Swahili coast trade

Monsoon trade along the East African coast in which Swahili city-states such as Kilwa, Mombasa and Malindi exchanged gold from the Zimbabwe plateau, ivory and timber for Indian cloth, glass beads and Chinese porcelain, with ships sailing on to Aden, Gujarat and the Malabar coast. Enslaved people were carried north along it too.
