Red Seal Ships

Under permits bearing the shogun's red seal, more than 350 Japanese ships sailed from Nagasaki to Southeast Asian ports in the early 17th century. They took silver, copper and swords to Hội An, Manila and Siam, and brought back Chinese silk, sugar and deer hides, until the sakoku edicts ended overseas voyages.
