Trade route

Indo-Roman trade

After Rome annexed Egypt, goods went up the Nile to Coptos, across the desert to the Red Sea ports and then on the monsoon to India. Roman gold, wine and glass paid for pepper, pearls, ivory and cloth at Muziris, Barygaza and Arikamedu; up to 120 ships a year sailed from Myos Hormos.
