Clipper Route

Fast sailing ships ran from Britain down the Atlantic and east through the Roaring Forties to Australia, then home past Cape Horn, a full circuit of the globe on the westerly winds. They carried gold, wool and later wheat; until the 1870s tea clippers also raced home from China by way of the Sunda Strait and the Cape.
