Champagne fairs

Six fairs a year at Lagny, Bar-sur-Aube, Provins and Troyes brought Flemish cloth sellers together with Italian merchants. Mule trains from Genoa crossed the Mont Cenis Pass in over a month; other goods came by sea to Aigues-Mortes and up the Rhône. Bills of exchange were settled there.
