When Zhu Wen had the Jinghai governor Dugu Sun exiled and killed, the Viet chief Khúc Thừa Dụ of Hồng châu seized Đại La and named himself jiedushi; early in 906 the Tang court, in Zhu Wen's hands, confirmed him.
